Sharing Is Caring

“Putting feelings into words” or affect labeling, is shown to support emotional regulation. Whether it’s through sharing a negative experience with a close friend, journaling, talk therapy, etc., researchers have quantified affect labeling with reduced activity in the amygdala (the integrative center of the brain for emotions, emotional behavior and motivation).

If you struggle with emotions that you find difficult to let go of, consider how you may benefit from talking, sharing or processing your feelings. Use journaling for self-care, and seek out trusted confidants and mental health practitioners for a safe space to explore co-regulation.
