Grief Stems From Change
Not all grief comes from death. The best definition I’ve found explains grief as “the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.” So, big life changes can often trigger a kind of grief we can’t explain. Sometimes it comes from the end of a job, a friendship that ended, or a version of life that closed quietly.
We rarely give ourselves permission to grieve these losses the same way. There’s no funeral for a chapter ending, no one bringing you a meal because your routine disappeared. So the grief goes unacknowledged, even if it’s still felt.
This week, name one ending you haven’t let yourself grieve. You don’t need a reason big enough to justify the emotions, just the willingness to let it be real.
