Embrace the Shadow: Why Doing Inner Work Matters for Your Business

From two (reluctant) healers-turned-business-owners…

If someone told us (Tribe’s founders) twenty five years ago that we’d be running multiple businesses, we’d have laughed and probably saged them. We didn’t get into this work to build a brand, market a service, or manage cash flow. We became practitioners because we wanted to help people. We envisioned Tribe because we wanted to help our fellow healers. Because Spirit called. Because we felt it in our bones.
But here’s the thing no one told us on the path to becoming holistic practitioners: if you want to sustain your practice—and yourself—you are a business owner, whether you like it or not.
And if you’re anything like us, that realization came with a mix of discomfort, resistance, and a long, uncomfortable stare into the mirror. That mirror? It’s shadow work, and it doesn’t just belong in your client sessions—it belongs in your business, too.

The Shadow in Business: Where Resistance Lives
Shadow work is the process of meeting the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, rejected, or judged. In healing sessions, we guide our clients through it all the time. But when it comes to our own visibility, pricing, or even claiming our worth… suddenly the shadows show up like clockwork:
🙅🏻‍♀️“I’m not a real business owner.”
🙆🏽”The tech and systems stuff is not my thing.”
🤦🏼‍♀️“I’m not good with money.”
🤷🏿‍♂️“Who am I to charge for this work?”
💆🏾‍♀️“If I grow, I’ll lose touch with what matters.”

Sound familiar?
This is your unconscious calling the shots. And when we don’t address it, it quietly runs our business decisions—or lack thereof. We stall. We shrink. We sabotage. Not because we’re lazy or unmotivated, but because some deeper part of us is trying to keep us safe in the only way it knows how: by keeping us small.

Unlocking Your Potential Starts Within
We avoided shadow work early on in our business, and for some time. We tried to “stay aligned,” “go with the flow,” and “trust the universe.” But alignment without accountability? Flow without focus? It’s like planting seeds and never watering them because Mercury is in retrograde.
What shifted everything for us was finally sitting down with the resistance. Not fighting it. Not trying to manifest it away. Just listening.
We discussed the fears. We dialogued with our inner critics. We explored the parts of us that associated success with selling out. We found younger versions of ourselves who were terrified of being seen, rejected, or misunderstood.
And you know what? That changed everything.
Because when you integrate the shadow, you’re no longer ruled by it. You can still feel the fear—and take aligned action anyway. You can show up in your fullness, knowing your worth isn’t a threat to your integrity. You become available for more.
More clients. More income. More impact. More ease.

New Possibilities, Rooted in Wholeness
Doing business from a place of wholeness is a radical act in a culture that thrives on hustle and hierarchy.
Read. That. Again.

When we heal the relationship we have with ourselves, we transform the way we show up in the world—and the way abundance flows to us.

Here’s what shadow-integrated business looks like:

  • You price your offerings in a way that honors your energy and your value.
  • You market yourself with authenticity, not apology.
  • You stop hiding behind perfectionism or procrastination.
  • You create containers that nourish—not deplete—you.
  • You trust yourself more than the algorithm.

A Loving Nudge for the Fellow Reluctant Business Owner
If this is resonating, let us offer you this: your business is a living, breathing extension of your healing work. It’s not separate from your spiritual path—it is part of it.
So let the fear be a teacher. Let the resistance be an invitation. Let the discomfort be a doorway.
Your shadows aren’t here to destroy you. They’re here to reveal the power you’ve buried underneath all those old stories. And when you meet them with compassion, everything begins to shift.
You don’t have to become someone you’re not. You just have to become more of who you already are.
Rooted. Resourced. Radiant. Ready.⚡️
