Care for the Earth This Earth Week
We are all integral members of the magnificent meshwork that is the natural world, and we are fully dependent on this critical network for our health and survival. From the food we eat to the materials we use to build our infrastructure and technologies, everything we do is furnished by our environment. But if we take more than we give, this supply can fall short.
We owe it to the earth to care for it as it does us. While Earth Week is only one of the 52 every year, it’s a time to reflect on the impact we have on this planet, and to seek sustainable changes that improve our dynamic relationship. Here are some ideas to do this:
- Invest in clean energy: with recent advancements in renewable energy, it is now possible to save money (in some cases) over the long run by investing in alternative power sources like solar energy. Research what your options are, staying mindful of the many online solar energy scams.
- Limit plastic consumption: be conscious of the amount of single-use plastic items you use daily. If you find that it’s more than you’d like, consider alternatives, such as carrying around a reusable beverage container for refills, using reusable bags at the grocery store, or buying more items in bulk to reduce packaging.
- Reduce food waste: food waste is one of the greatest sources of carbon emissions from the garbage dump. To prevent this, consider starting a compost bin outside. The most immediate benefit is that you’ll have lots of free and nutritious food for your plants!
Ultimately, earth care is self-care, because it nourishes what sustains you. We hope this post inspired you to brainstorm creative ways to do just that.
