Be Your Own Health Advocate

It’s easy to hand over the responsibility for your health to someone in a white coat. After all, they’ve studied the body, memorized the protocols, and are supposed to know what’s best. But even the most compassionate doctor doesn’t live in your skin.

Being your own health advocate means listening closely—to your body, your intuitive wisdom, and the questions that arise when you’re given a diagnosis, treatment plan, or told that “everything is fine.” The medical system, while powerful, is not infallible. Health care workers are often pressed for time, working within human and system limitations. And sometimes, the care that’s offered doesn’t fully honor your lived experience.

The best path and outcome for your health is not always the most obvious. A different provider. A more holistic path. More rest and relaxation. You are allowed to explore and change course. The journey to better health often starts when you stop outsourcing your voice and begin trusting its value.

No one knows your health better than you. Treat that knowledge as a compass as you receive the care you need.
